The Siberian cat is a majestic and ancient breed, originating from the forests of Russia. Known for their luxurious triple coat and powerful build, Siberians are both stunning and hardy. Bred to withstand harsh climates, this breed has a long history of survival in the wild, which has contributed to their strength, agility, and remarkable intelligence.
Personality and Temperament
Siberians are renowned for their affectionate, outgoing personalities. They bond strongly with their humans and are often described as “dog-like” in their loyalty. They’re playful, curious, and love to be part of the action—whether it’s supervising chores, playing fetch, or cuddling on the lounge.
Despite their bold presence, Siberians are incredibly gentle and adapt well to households with children, other cats, and even dogs. Their calm and confident nature makes them a joy to live with.
Hypoallergenic Qualities
Many people find Siberians more tolerable than other breeds when it comes to allergies. While no cat is truly hypoallergenic, Siberians are known to produce lower levels of the Fel d 1 protein—the primary allergen in cats. This makes them a potential option for allergy sufferers, though we always recommend spending time with a Siberian before bringing one home if allergies are a concern.
Physical Features
Siberians are a medium to large-sized breed with a strong, muscular frame and a slightly rounded body. Their most distinctive feature is their thick, water-resistant triple coat, which changes with the seasons—denser in winter and lighter in summer.
They have expressive, slightly oval eyes that can be green, gold, copper, or blue (especially in colourpoint varieties). Their ears are medium-sized, with rounded tips and lynx-like tufts, adding to their wild, enchanting look.
Grooming and Care
Although Siberians have a long coat, they generally don’t mat easily due to the texture of their fur. A weekly brush is usually enough to keep their coat in good condition, though more frequent grooming is beneficial during shedding seasons.
These cats are active and benefit from regular play and stimulation. Providing climbing structures, toys, and interaction helps keep them happy and healthy.
Health and Longevity
Siberians are generally robust and healthy cats, with few breed-specific issues. As responsible breeders, we screen all our breeding cats for known genetic conditions to ensure the health of our kittens. With proper care, Siberians often live long, healthy lives—many well into their mid-to-late teens.
